Action Alert: Oppose HB 1 – Anti-Immigrant Property Restrictions
HB 1 is currently being considered by the Ohio House Public Safety Committee. The bill would restrict certain immigrants and foreign-owned entities from owning property in Ohio.
Although changes have been made to the bill, serious concerns remain. Critics note that the bill:
-
Discriminates based on national origin against individuals lawfully present in the United States
-
Restricts investment from certain foreign-owned businesses
-
Conflicts with existing U.S. and Ohio laws related to property ownership and due process
-
Defines “critical infrastructure” so broadly that large portions of Ohio could be affected by ownership restrictions
The committee will hold its fifth hearing on March 17 at 9:30 a.m., and a vote could occur soon.
Take ActionContact members of the House Public Safety Committee and urge them to vote NO on HB 1.
