Built between 1905 and 1923 as the first public school for Black children in Nelson County, the site has been rebuilt after years of deterioration. The Center will reopen to offer programs in arts, education, technology, and local history. The Sisters of Charity of Nazareth were honored to support this rebuild. Community members are invited to celebrate and take part in its renewed mission.
Charity Federation: The Sisters of Charity Federation is hosting a virtual orientation to better understand how the Federation collaborates at the United Nations with other NGOs, Member States and UN Agencies. Kentucky Gives Day: A box fan makes a big difference. During the hottest days, staying cool is a matter of safety. Extreme heat places older adults and families at risk each summer. Last year, supporters helped the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth distribute 600 fans across Nelson County. This year, the Sisters hope to raise $12,000 on May 12, 2026 for Kentucky Gives Day to provide more fans to those in need. Each fan offers safe, low-cost cooling and includes a prayer card as a sign of care and compassion. Fans will be distributed on June 18, 2026.
Archival Center Temporary Closing: The Archival Center is closed to visitors during the remodeling of the Collection Storage Room. Staff will continue to respond to archives requests by phone and email throughout this period and encourage inquiries as needed. An announcement will be shared when the Archival Center reopens in the coming months.
