SECAM 20TH PLENARY ASSEMBLY IN KIGALI- RWANDA
The Symposium of Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar (SECAM) held its 20th Plenary Assembly from July 30 to August 4, 2025, in Kigali, Rwanda, under the theme: “Christ, Source of Hope, Reconciliation and Peace.”
The plenary brought together over 250 participants, including Cardinals, Bishops, Priests, Consecrated Men and Women, and Lay Leaders from across Africa and its islands, as well as partners from other continents.
While delivering his opening address on Thursday July 31, The President of SECAM, His Eminence Fridolin Cardinal Ambongo described the Assembly as a “spiritual moment” rather than just an administrative exercise. He praised Rwanda as a land “that bears witness to both the wounds of history and the strength of resurrection,” recognizing the country’s continued role as a symbol of healing and reconciliation in the continent. In 1994 Rwanda had suffered genocides and more than 800,000 civilians were killed.
Rev. Fr. Chesco Peter Msaga, C.PP.S, Deputy Secretary General for Tanzania Episcopal Conference attended SECAM 20th Plenary Assembly.
