On Dec. 1, 2025, the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth and Associates pause to remember their beginning in 1812 and to give thanks for the path that has carried them to this moment. They gather with a spirit of gratitude for all that has been entrusted to them and for all that continues to unfold in the Community across Kenya, Botswana, Belize, Nepal, India, and the United States.
Leadership offered these brief words to the Community, “May this day lead all to remember the legacy that shapes their lives and mission. May the Sisters and Associates join in gratitude for one another and for the Congregation they share. May their light shine with kindness and courage in a world that longs for healing.”
From the earliest days, Mother Catherine reminded the people of Louisville that the Sisters were not hirelings but freely chose to serve those most in need. Her words continue to guide them. They listen with care, stand with the poor, walk with those who suffer, and welcome each person with kindness.
Their Constitutions remind them that they are women rooted in the Gospel who seek ongoing conversion in a vowed way of life. This call shapes their prayer, their choices, and their hope for the world. They look to the needs of this moment and strive to bring peace where there is conflict, healing where there is brokenness, and mercy where there is hurt.
On this Foundation Day they remember those who came before them. They honor their courage and the paths they opened. They lift in prayer all who continue the mission today, Sisters and Associates who give their lives in many places and cultures.
May this day stir renewed gratitude among them. May it strengthen their resolve to walk humbly with all creation and to carry the light of Christ into the joys and struggles of the world. They place their trust in the One who began this good work among them and who brings it to completion.
