Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity Sister Mary Ann Spanjers and Sister Julie Ann Sheahan began an October vocation discernment journey traveling by car beginning in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. Part of our purpose was to meet young women for conversations along the way. Of course, we did.

Kansas

One such visit was in Wichita, Kansas. A local coffee house was our place of meeting.

New Mexico

We sojourned on to Santa Rosa, NM. Of course, we visited and prayed by the Mission Church of St Rose. Another experience was a refreshing walk to the “Blue Lagoon” where we met some delightful teenagers who were very welcoming.

Arizona

Arriving at San Xavier Convent to the welcome of Sister Rosalyn and Sister Carla along with the Sisters from Yuma, was an immediate feeling of “being home” for Sister Julie Ann who spent many years with the Tohono O’ Odham people and Sister Mary Ann who just departed from teaching at San Miguel last year, but mostly it felt like home to be with our Sisters!

The Discernment Day Retreat for young women sponsored by the Tucson Diocese was delightful! Sisters from three different congregations accompanied the young women from various parts of the diocese. It was a day of prayer, the Eucharist, sharing, listening, questioning, joy and peace. Sister Mary Ann guided the day along with Fr. Alan Valencia, vocation director and Sophia Herrera, administrative assistant for vocations.

Texas

The sojourn to Pecos, TX. To be continued…
