Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity Sister Mary Ann Spanjers and Franciscan Friar of the Guadalupe Province Father Joachim Studwell shared a young adult presentation entitled The Eucharist, from Adoration to Action, Franciscan Spirituality with St. Clement Young Adults, Chicago, Illinois October 2, 2025 at 6 PM.

The presentation-reflection consisted of five brief videos, brief oral descriptions and a handout outlining the movement of one’s heart as seen in the life of St. Francis and St. Clare of Assisi. The Congregation of Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity in conjunction with the Franciscan Friars from Our Lady of Guadalupe Province, Midwest Capuchins Franciscan Friars, Franciscan Friars of the Third Order Regular, and Conventual Franciscan Friars who continue to follow in Jesus’ footprints today, reveal how Franciscan Spirituality is currently lived. There were three discussion reflection questions for young adults to engage in with each other and time for personal questions, comments and reflections. We are especially grateful to the young adults from the Detroit Archdiocese who contributed to the presentation with their insights, authenticity and faith filled reflections.

Young adults heard three points of emphasis in sharing about Franciscan Eucharistic Spirituality;
1) The Gospel life is to discover that God is in love with you and the only response is to fall in love with God.
2) An encounter with God changes a person.
3) Franciscan Spirituality is about becoming more oneself; it is about using one’s gifts in the world.

Here are some comments about the evening:

It brought me sense of peace while I have several personal hardships going on. Thank you. God bless you.

I appreciated the vocation stories, opening with a reminder of Christ’s love for us, a brief and understandable course on Franciscan Spirituality, coming from someone who knows very little of St. Francis.

I love hearing the wisdom of members of the religious life, to hear they have come to love God is inspiring. I like having work material to do after.

I appreciated hearing personal stories and their connection to Jesus. I will continue to reflect on how our heart is an altar. Thank you. God bless you.

I really enjoyed the perspective they brought about adoration. It was nice to hear from a Sister that sometimes her mind also wanders during Mass. I will use the prayer she gave us in the future.

I loved the personal stories from Sister and Father that brought them closer to the Lord.

The insights and stories, short digestible videos and questions.
