Saint Luke Institute Board Chair, Sr. Salvatrice Murphy, DC, LCSW and President & CEO Rev. Patrick J. McDevitt, CM, PhD, released a statement to the SLI community today to honor the service of retiring board member Richard Milone, M.D.

Dear Members of the Board of Directors, Foundation Board Members, and SLI Staff,

We write to share that Dr. Richard D. Milone, M.D., concluded his service on the Saint Luke Institute Board of Directors effective August 31, 2026, after 13 years of dedicated and distinguished service to SLI.

Since joining the Board in 2013, Dr. Milone served faithfully on the Quality Improvement Committee. He also served on the Strategic Planning Committee from 2018 to 2022, providing valuable insight and guidance during an important period of transition for Saint Luke Institute, including our evolution from inpatient to intensive outpatient services.

Dr. Milone has enjoyed a distinguished career in the mental health profession spanning more than six decades. His professional service has included hospital settings, private practice, academic appointments, and leadership on professional and academic boards. He has also contributed significantly to the field through numerous presentations and publications.

Of particular importance to Saint Luke Institute is Dr. Milone’s longstanding commitment to the mental health and well-being of clergy. In 1992, he co-founded the Clergy Consultation and Treatment Service (CCTS) at Saint Vincent’s Hospital Westchester in Harrison, New York. His dedication to clergy care eventually brought him into a close relationship with Saint Luke Institute, where he referred numerous clergy for treatment and support before ultimately joining our Board.

Dr. Milone’s contributions to mental health care have been recognized through numerous honors, including the Saint Vincent de Paul Award, the Sursum Corda Award, the Child of Peace Award, and the Saint Vincent’s Auxiliary Award. These honors reflect only a portion of the impact he has made throughout his remarkable career. His commitment to the Church has been equally evident through his service as a member of the Order of Malta and the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre.

Throughout his years on the SLI Board, Dr. Milone has been a gentle and steadfast voice of wisdom, encouragement, and thoughtful challenge. His deep commitment to the mission of Saint Luke Institute has been evident in his care for our people, his respect for our work, and his unwavering advocacy for mental health care and the well-being of clergy.

Dr. Milone leaves a lasting legacy at Saint Luke Institute. We will remain deeply grateful for his friendship, leadership, and faithful service, and we will carry forward the values and commitment to mission that he has embodied so generously.

On behalf of the Board of Directors and the entire SLI staff, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Milone for his 13 years of extraordinary service. We wish him and his family every blessing in the years ahead.

With profound gratitude,

Sister Salvatrice Murphy, D.C.
Chair, Board of Directors
