A year after arriving in Brockton, Massachusetts, SCNs Anne Marie O’Shea and Ann Whittaker traveled to the Peace Sanctuary in New York for a weekend of prayer, reflection and action for global peace.
The Peace Sanctuary provides Peace Poles that are installed around the world. We are proud to have one at Catherine Spalding House, where we created a Peace Garden featuring a Peace Bell—made from a recycled oxygen tank—and our Peace Pole. The pole displays some of the languages spoken by our immigrant neighbors in Brockton and by people in countries where the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth minister.
This week, we remember and honor the people of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. We pray in solidarity with the victims of the atomic bombings, their grieving families and all who were terrorized.
During these days of remembrance, we ring the Peace Bell and pray at the Peace Pole, asking that global violence, war and the destruction of our planet cease. May swords be beaten into plowshares.
Together, in solidarity with our sisters and brothers around the world, may we pause for quiet reflection, pray and take action to promote peace in our homes, neighborhoods, cities and countries.
May peace prevail on Earth!
