Hope Unbroken as Holy Union Sisters join LCWR in Atlanta
Home

Starting on Tuesday, August 12th, almost 1,000 women and men gathered in Atlanta, GA for the annual LCWR (Leadership Conference of Women Religious) under the theme of “Hope Unbroken: Journeying in God’s Promise”. The group was made up of the leadership teams of many women religious congregations from around the world, as well as lay staff women and men who support their ministries and works, and vendors who partner with women religious congregations.

The group convened to focus on journeying towards a more just and peaceful world than the one so many are experiencing today both here and abroad, and to voice our support for a world based on protecting the most vulnerable among us and reflecting Jesus’ prayer for us: “That they may be one as you and I are one.”

Over four days we listened to speakers, reflected on various aspects of our world’s situation, and reminded ourselves that our Hope is in God and that our fallen world has seen these times before. In the end, Faith, Hope and Love will once again reveal a path to healing and unity.

One of the high points of the conference was a one mile walk around downtown Atlanta which included approximately 850 participants from the event: A Pilgrimage of Hope. Some of those who joined us had oxygen tanks, others had walkers, and some were in wheelchairs. The group stopped periodically for group prayer and to sing songs of unity and peace.  Leading the march was a banner that read: “Creating Communion at the Intersection of Racism, Forced Migration, and Climate Crisis.”
