With the aim of discussing and reflecting on the social impact and relevance of service learning, the International Association of La Salle Universities (IALU) is promoting the Fall Online Symposium: “Sustainability through Lasallian Collaborations: Impact of Service Learning”
The event, organised by the IALU committees on internationalisation, mission and research, will take place on 22 and 23 October starting at 9:00 a.m. (ET) / 3:00 p.m. Rome time, and is free.
Topics and speakers
Speakers at the symposium include leaders and executives from La Salle Universities. On 22 October, Mr David Livingston, President of Lewis University and Vice-President of IALU, will address the topic: “Mission in Action through Service Learning: what makes us unique“.
Mr Josep Santos, Director General of La Salle Campus Barcelona-URL, will explore “The Transformative Role in our Shared Mission” of service learning.
The first day will conclude with Ms María Rosa Tapia, General Coordinator of UNISERVITATE—the programme promoting solidarity-based service learning in Catholic Institutions of Higher Education (ICES) around the world—with a presentation on “The distinctive Impact of Service Learning.”
On 23 October, the second day of the symposium, Brother Bernard Oca, President of La Salle University, will speak on “Service Learning at the Heart of our Mission“.
Similarly, Ms Sarah Beth Demsey, Director of Participatory Learning at Saint Mary’s College of California, will conclude with a presentation on “Faculty Development for Mission: Strengthening Service Learning and Community Collaboration.”
