Justice and Peace Issues

WEAR ORANGE CAMPAIGNThe Inspiration for Wear Orange Wear Orange is dedicated to honoring the lives of people in the United States affected by gun violence and elevating the voices of advocates across the country who are demanding an end to gun violence by taking action.

It originated on June 2, 2015 — what would have been Hadiya Pendleton’s 18th birthday. Orange, the color hunters wear in the woods for safety, is the color that the friends of Hadiya Pendleton wore in her honor when she was shot and killed in Chicago at 15. Just one week earlier, she had performed at President Obama’s 2nd inaugural parade in 2013. After her death, Hadiya’s friends and family asked us to stand up, speak out, and wear orange with them. Since then, orange has been the defining color of the gun violence prevention movement to raise awareness.Today, Wear Orange honors Hadiya and the nearly 130 people shot and killed every day in the United States, along with the hundreds more who are wounded and the countless others whose lives have been changed by gun violence.WEAR ORANGE WEEKEND JUNE 5-7Time Sensitive: You are invited to the National All Supporters Call-Wear Orange Weekend Kick Off!
