Sylvia Jeffers, a Companion of Charity and Associate Candidate, recently completed a fundraising walk in support of Prostate Cancer UK. The event raised awareness and funds for research, advocacy, and life-saving work aimed at reducing deaths from prostate cancer.
In the UK, prostate cancer is now the most common cancer affecting men. Around 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with the disease during their lifetime, and for men of African Caribbean or African heritage, the risk is approximately twice as high.
Funds raised through initiatives such as this support vital awareness campaigns, research into better treatments and earlier detection, and advocacy for improvements in healthcare services. The goal is simple but urgent: to reduce the number of men losing their lives to prostate cancer.
Reflecting on the day, Sylvia shared:
“It was a lovely day, although a wee bit challenging for me because of my own health issues. However, keeping with the SCN and SCNA ethos, despite our own circumstances, we will continue to stand with others and stand in the gap where there is need.”
Her participation serves as a reminder of the Christian call to support one another, especially those facing difficult circumstances.
We pray for all those living with prostate cancer, for their loved ones, and for the researchers, healthcare professionals, and charities working tirelessly to improve outcomes for men across the UK.
