Corporate Voice: As the Plastics Treaty is being negotiated, Laudato Si’ reminds individuals and communities to reduce their consumption of plastics, particularly single-use plastics, as a way to care for the environment and promote a more just and sustainable world. Congratulations: Congratulations to Theresa Knabel, SCN, for being selected as the 2025 recipient of the Rev. Louis J. Luzbetak, SVD, Award for Exemplary Church Research for her efforts to document the enslaved families and descendants of the Congregation. Sister Theresa will be presented with this award during a celebration at Georgetown University on the evening of Thursday, November 13, 2025.
The Luzbetak Award, named for CARA’s (Center for Applied Research in the Apostolate) first executive director, is awarded annually to a researcher that has distinguished herself in the conduct of Church research. Like Fr. Luzbetak, recipients of this award have conducted important research about Catholics and have devoted a significant portion of their careers to work on Church or religious topics.

Benefit for Bowman Cherry Center – Aug. 9: The Nelson County Black Citizens Arts Council will host a benefit dance performance by Envision Dance Company on Saturday, Aug. 9, 2025, at the Bardstown Civic Center, 321 South Third Street, Bardstown, Kentucky, with shows at 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. Tickets are $12. Proceeds support the renovation of the Bowman Cherry Center, a project led by the Arts Council and the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth to create a local hub for education and the arts. SCNA Gathering — Sept. 12-14: “What is charism? How have the Associates and SCNs lived it out through the years? The theme for this upcoming gathering, ‘Living Our Vincentian Charism: Growing in Charity,’ will encourage us all to reflect and expand our thinking on how we live out charism in our day-to-day lives. Feel free to invite others to experience our SCN/A hospitality. The official gathering will kick off on Friday, Sept. 12, and wrap up around noon on Sunday, Sept. 14, with the First Commitment and Renewal Ceremony occurring on the evening of Saturday, Sept. 13.
