Note from the author: “In his encyclical “Magnifica Humanitas”, Pope Leo XIV spoke about the “two cities” that St. Augustine identified centuries ago. The following is my reflection on the cities.”
A City to Build
Written by: Sister André Marie Masney
We tried to build at Babel.
We got confused.
It’s back to home turf to hear again.
We tried to build at the Acropolis.
But the “One God” got lost in the panorama of deities.
We’ll listen to the crashing of waves.
We tried to build in the Colosseum.
But crushing was better than life.
We’ll follow the local “toga candida.”
Then the Spirit came to build
Replacing
Crashing, crushing, and confusion
With
Caring, communiqué and communion.
The “tekton” came to build,
With more than stone and wood,
A family home of love.
The “alma” came to build
An “anawim” circle of friends.
Together their love brought to fruition
The Jubilee that God hoped for:
A Son, the Spirit, the Church.
