Mokama | Oct. 28-29, 2026
The Sisters in social action gathered at Mokama for their annual meeting. The program commenced with the traditional lighting of the lamp by Sister Joel Urampil, followed by a minute of silence in solidarity with those affected by riots, natural calamities and ongoing social struggles.
Sister Suchita Kullu, the ministry co-coordinator, welcomed the gathering and introduced the central theme: “JOURNEYING.” In her opening thoughts, she described social action as an ongoing journey — a purposeful movement aligned with the mission of Jesus. It is an all-embracing mission calling for constant commitment and readiness to respond to unpredictable challenges.
Sister Suchita invited the group to reflect on the story “The Empty Lamp and the Hidden Ladder,” encouraging everyone to look inward and promote personal wellness for a healthy community in mission.
Key Reflections and Insights
During the small-group and plenary sessions, members shared deep aspirations and key insights for personal and community growth:
- Personal and Community Alignment: Recognizing the value of inner peace and strong community roots before stepping out into active ministry.
- Compassionate Leadership: A caring leader serves as the heart of a mission community. Open dialogue and mutual compassion allow sisters to share freely and support one another in times of need.
- Holistic Self-Care: Responsible activists prioritize their physical, emotional and intellectual health to sustain their ministry.
- Strengthening Community Bonds: Leadership thrives on humility and courage, met with mutual respect from group members. The group noted that nurturing deep, loving relationships within the community divinizes members and strengthens their sense of belonging and perseverance.
Honoring the Journey
The second part of Day 1 focused on “Honoring the Journey.” Sisters eagerly shared their personal experiences over the past year — highlighting stories of perseverance, honesty, trial and error, and transparency while being in mission. The SCN charism and mission statement came vibrantly alive through the daring and creative commitment of the group.
To keep future work focused and faith-filled, members agreed to emphasize lasting impact, creative alternatives and direct community involvement in their reporting rather than focusing solely on statistics.
Learning Sessions and Capacity Building
Day 2 featured interactive input sessions designed to enrich the sisters’ work:
- Human Dignity in the Digital Age (Magnificae Vitae / Humanitas): Facilitated by Sister Suchita, this session highlighted the urgency of upholding human dignity and personal empathy over screen-based interactions, prompting the group to take up advocacy on this issue.
- Building a Sustainable Future: Facilitated by Sister Aisha, the discussion centered on systemic change, empowering communities to seek rights-based awareness and long-term mobilization.
- Effective Report Writing: Sister Kita Sinku led a practical workshop guiding members on aligning project activities with strategic objectives.
Constructive Dialogue and Forward-Looking Proposals
An open sharing session provided a safe space for constructive dialogue. The group recognized that open discussion and constructive feedback are healthy components of social action and democratic growth.
To build greater mutual understanding across all ministries in the province and adapt effectively to regulatory frameworks (such as FCRA rules), the group put forward three constructive proposals:
- Organize a province-wide sociopolitical analysis workshop for all sisters to promote shared vision and empathy across ministries.
- Formulate a comprehensive, clearly defined social action policy.
- Review and refine how social action is structured within the province’s overall mission priorities.
CONCLUSION
In her concluding remarks, Sister Basanti Lakra commended the sisters for their deep passion, commitment to human dignity and service to marginalized communities. She noted how their efforts beautifully align with both the SCN mission statement and the principles of the preamble to the Indian Constitution.
Gratitude was extended to the committee for organizing an enriching meeting that nurtured potential leaders. The meeting concluded with a prayer and recreation.
