Sister Josephine M. (Thomas Kathryn) Roche, BVM, 100, died Thursday, June 4, 2026, at St. Joseph Village, in Chicago.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at St Edward Catholic Church, 4350 W. Sunnyside Ave., Chicago, followed immediately by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at a later date.
Sister Josephine ministered as a secondary teacher at The Immaculata HS and Alvernia HS in Chicago; Holy Angels Academy in Milwaukee; St Paul HS in Burlington, Iowa; Mount Carmel Academy in Wichita, Kans.; and Bishop Garcia Diego HS in Santa Barbara, Calif. She served as administrative assistant to the Business and Theology Departments at Mundelein College.
She was born on June 19, 1925, to Thomas and Mary (Thomas) Roche. She entered the BVM congregation Sept. 8, 1948, from Our Lady of Lourdes, Chicago. She professed first vows on March 19, 1951, and final vows on Aug. 15, 1956.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Madeline Roche. She is survived by her twin sister Maureen Kennedy, nieces, nephews and the Sisters of Charity, BVM, with whom she shared life for 77 years.
