Jemilly (left) formed a special bond with S. Marjorie Farfsing, visiting her often during her time as a corporate work study student at Mother Margaret Hall.
This May, DePaul Cristo Rey High School corporate work study student Jemilly will conclude her second year working in Mother Margaret Hall before moving on to her next placement at Cincinnati Good Samaritan Hospital, founded by the Sisters of Charity.
She will take with her the cherished memories she has made with many Sisters, including the late S. Sarah Mulligan, whom Jemilly considered “a real best friend.” S. Sarah’s example has continued to inspire kindness in the DPCR student. Jemilly hopes she can continue to emulate the humility that the Sisters taught her wherever she goes next.
She also holds dear her friendship with S. Marjorie Farfsing, whose joyful greeting “There’s my little angel!” welcomes Jemilly each Tuesday morning as she arrives for work.
Since beginning at Mother Margaret Hall last year, Jemilly has deepened her relationships with the Sisters while growing in communication and professional skills that will serve her well into the future.
This year brought new challenges and opportunities. After leading bingo last year, Jemilly passed her role on to DPCR student Terriauna, and stepped into a new position leading programs for the Activities Office. Having to tackle her fear of public speaking, she now leads programs such as trivia in the Community Room. With guidance from her mentors in the Activities Office and encouragement from the Sisters, Jemilly has excelled in this new role and gained important skills, such as public speaking and active communication.
Jemilly also took on hosting birthday parties for the Sisters, organizing celebrations filled with song, cake and joy. Through these experiences, she has not only gained professional experience, but also discovered new possibilities for the future.
“Now that I’m getting closer to college, I don’t know if I should do nursing. I don’t know if it’s for me, but maybe social work,” Jemilly explained. Throughout these two years in the Activities Office, it remains certain that the Sisters have made an impact on her. She continued, “The Sisters have helped so many people, and I want to do the same thing.”
S. Marcel DeJonckheere, who first met Jemilly while administering her DePaul Cristo Rey entrance exam, has had the unique opportunity to watch Jemilly grow since the beginning of her high school career. Though she shares a special connection with Jemilly, S. Marcel is excited to see her continue to grow and learn at Good Samaritan Hospital next school year.
“She’ll get some good experience there, and she’s on my prayer list forever,” S. Marcel affirmed.
We will miss you, Jemilly!
