Brother Paulo Fossatti, who belongs to the District of Brazil-Chile, has been appointed member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences, Arts, History and Literature (ABRASCI)* as from 30 May 2025, when he took up his post in Brasilia (Brazil), in a ceremony held in the Legislative Chamber of the Federal District.
Brother Paulo, who has been serving as President of the Board of Directors of the Brazilian Union of Catholic Education (UBEC in Portuguese) and National Advisor for Education, expressed his joy at this important appointment: “to occupy the 48th chair of ABRASCI, with Paulo Freire as Trustee, is a situation that fills me with pride and excitement”.
For the Brazilian religious, “this distinction, as well as recognising my career and educational legacy, is a great honour and a tribute to Brazilian education and to all those who dedicate their lives to the mission of education”.
Brother Paulo Fossatti is a psychologist, holds a PhD in Education and post-doctor in Educational Sciences. He has majors in School Administration and Neuroscience. He is also an associate researcher at the University of Algarve in Portugal and a member of the District Council of the District of Brazil-Chile.
For 12 years he was President of the La Salle University of Canoas, in Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil), and has collaborated in various areas of the formation of Brothers and educational communities in Brazil, as well as being Regional Director of Education for Lasallian schools in the Federal District.
His career as an educator and researcher has led him to receive several awards, including the Researcher-Productivity award from the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development of Brazil.
For the District of Brazil-Chile and for the La Salle network in Brazil, “the incorporation of Brother Paulo into the Brazilian Academy of Sciences, Arts, History and Literature, with his solid career dedicated to integral, human and Christian formation, reinforces the commitment of the entity to an education of excellence”.
