April 28-May 2, 2025 Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity Sister Kathleen Murphy, Sister Mary Ann Spanjers and Sister Julie Ann Sheahan participated in the Council of Major Superiors Women Religious (CMSWR) Formators Workshop held at the Retreat and Conference Center at the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception, Huntington, NY. The theme was Formation of Spirituality and the Spiritual Life.
Speakers included Father Dominic Langevin, OP, The Sacrament of Penance and Growth in the Spiritual Life; Dr. Lawrence Feingold, Mary, the Model of the Eucharistic Life; and Sister Rosemary Esseff, OP On the General Instruction of the Liturgy of the Hours-some spiritual reflections to prepare for the new translation and On the Choral Recitation of the Divine Office-some practical skills to foster depth and unity. On Thursday evening young women were invited for a holy hour followed by selecting various pamphlets and give aways while conversing with individual Sisters.
Sister Kathleen comments: “The Formators’ Workshop always offers a graced time to meet and learn about other religious communities. It is a time to compare notes and best practices, but also to be inspired by the richness of the work of the Holy Spirit among women religious in the Church today and to grow in hope for all that God is doing among us!”
“Gathering with Sisters from such a variety of Religious Congregations from around the U.S. was an enriching experience. The speakers had a particular impact of knowledge, love for the Church and challenges of how to live and imbue our faith in Jesus to young women and new members in our communities. I appreciated Dr. Lawrence Feingold’s emphasis on our role in the Eucharistic sacrifice, “to join in the offering of ourselves with Jesus to the Father in order to rediscover the Eucharistic form of life are meant to have;” In other words, may our entire lives be Eucharistic—acts of Thanksgiving.” Sister Mary Ann Spanjers offered these thoughts.
