Inspired by the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth’s Fan Drive, a supporter in Sweetwater, Tennessee, has started a similar effort to bring relief to his local community during the hot summer months.
Larry Rotters, a long-time supporter of the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth, along with his wife Betsy, shared how the idea took shape after learning about the Fan Drive led by the Sisters. Motivated to take action, Larry partnered with Sweetwater Area Ministries, a local nonprofit that serves residents in need.
Last week, Larry delivered the first round of fans to Sweetwater Area Ministries for distribution.
“I was able to be there for the delivery,” Larry said. “The program coordinator was ecstatic, saying no one had ever done this for them before. They usually just get used fans to give away. It was a moving, humbling experience to see her so excited about a simple box fan.”
Larry emphasized that for the households receiving the fans, it could make a significant difference as temperatures rise. He is committed to continuing the effort throughout the summer and has already received word that more fans donated from out of town.
Sweetwater Area Ministries will monitor how quickly the fans are distributed and keep Larry informed when supplies run low. His goal is to keep the outreach stocked and ready to serve those who need relief from the heat.
Larry also expressed gratitude for being able to collaborate with the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth, saying that lives will be touched by the simple act of providing a new fan to someone in need.
