Brother Armin Luistro, Superior General of the Brothers of the Christian Schools, recently appointed Brother Victor Rathinam Auxiliary Visitor of the Lasallian South Asia District (LASAD). The mandate will last four years and will start on 15 May 2025 until 14 May 2029.
Brother Victor took the habit in 2004, pronounced his first vows in 2006 and his final vows in 2013. Born in 1981, his academic career includes two Degrees: one in Education and the other in Religious Sciences and he holds a Master’s Degree in History. His last assignment before his appointment as Auxiliary Visitor was as headmaster at St. James Secondary School in Suranam, Sivagangai district.
The Superior General, in making the appointment, described Brother Victor as a man who was “open and generous in all the assignments he has received in the past years as well as in the different roles and responsibilities he has held for the LASAD District”. For Brother Armin, commitment to the poor is a fundamental characteristic and strength in Brother Victor’s life. Br. Armin also emphasises the fact that in the last four years, the LASAD District has grown a lot “and I believe that, also thanks to Br. Victor, it will grow again as in the parable of the leaven or that of the mustard seed”.
The recent second District Chapter of LASAD itself is a testimony to the growing commitment of the Brothers to be more united and attentive to the quality of community life, in order to become effective witnesses of the Gospel. In fact, also based on the situation in the District and the directives of the 46th General Chapter, “the Brother Visitor and the entire leadership team, I hope, will ensure more responsive governance structures that deepen the Brothers’ interior and community life, and a renewed commitment to the sustainability of the Lasallian Mission”, continues the Superior General.
“I believe that Brother Victor has the necessary qualities to help the Brother Visitor unify the District”, said Brother Armin Luistro. “Both I and the General Council offer the new Auxiliary Visitor our warmest congratulations on the start of his term of office”.
The LASAD District is a relatively new District, officially inaugurated on 15 May 2021 by the merger of the former Lasallian Districts of India and Sri Lanka under a common leadership. The first Visitor of the LASAD District was Brother Bertram Perera.
