Letter Signers Needed: The Office of Mission Advancement (OMA) is looking for Sisters, who live on the Nazareth Campus, to help with a special project. OMA will create a letter to send to former donors to thank them for their donations and encourage them to continue their support. As a special touch, we would like for Sisters to sign the letters and write a brief hand-written message. Each Sister will be given approximately 10-15 letters. The message can be the same for all of the letters if you so choose.
Will you please consider giving some of your precious time for such a wonderful project? If you are interested in signing letters for this special project, please contact Stephaine Lamar at ext. 1551 or slamar@nazareth.org by Friday, July 11. Thank you in advance for your willingness to help.
Sustainabyte: June 5, 2025, was World Environment Day, and this year people around the world celebrated with the theme of “Beat Plastic Pollution”. Africa’s most populous country, Nigeria, is facing their plastic pollution problem with the introduction of new legislation, developed with support from the United Nations Environment Programme. Packaging is the largest source of plastic waste in Nigeria. Right now, plastic waste there is either burned, dumped in the open, or tossed into water bodies. With their new laws, companies who produce, import, distribute, or sell plastic packaging in Nigeria will have to be responsible for disposing of plastic pollution by funding non-profit organizations to reduce plastic pollution. This type of legislation is known as “extended producer responsibility.” Innocent Barikor, Director General of Nigeria’s government agency on the environment, said, “Extended producer responsibility as a strategy shifts the responsibility of waste management to the producers, adopting the polluter pays principle.” These companies will also be responsible for developing alternative packaging and launching programs to reuse containers. The hope is that these new laws will significantly increase plastic recycling in the country and work towards eliminating future plastic packaging.
SCN Super Raffle: This is a crucial time. We need your help to close the gap and sell the remaining raffle chances. Please reach out to your friends, family, parishes, and networks today. Encourage them to buy chances in the raffle. This is a simple and quick way to support the mission of the Sisters. Every ticket sold makes a difference. First prize is $20,000.
