Sustainabyte: Ten years ago, Pope Francis published Laudato Si’, issuing an urgent challenge “to protect our common home.” He spoke of a world where everything is connected and appealed for an inclusive dialogue about how we are shaping the future of our planet. Since then, people across the world have engaged in that dialogue, sharing ideas and inspiring one another through the Laudato Si’ Action Platform. Pope Leo XIV is continuing the efforts to care for our common home. As recently as this week, Pope Leo sent a video message to the Network of Universities for the Care of Our Common Home, commending them for “working for ecological, social, and environmental justice.”

Next week is Laudato Si’ Week, when we will celebrate the encyclical’s tenth anniversary. The theme for the week is “Raising Hope”, bringing the light of Laudato Si’ to all. We are encouraged to spread the word about Laudato Si’ and its message of integral ecology to all who haven’t heard. To help in these efforts, here is a link to resources from the Laudato Si’ Movement that include an eco-spirituality prayer service, a Laudato Si’ book club guide, and a link to the movie “The Letter”.

Pope Francis said in ‘A Prayer for Our Earth’: “Teach us to discover the worth of each thing, to be filled with awe and contemplation, to recognize that we are profoundly united with every creature as we journey towards your infinite light.” May we continue to raise hope in the world by caring for creation and working for ecological justice.
