The 2025 Nazareth Run with a Mission 5K, held on May 17 at the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth Motherhouse Campus in Kentucky, drew a nice turnout of participants supporting the Congregation’s global ministries. Runners and walkers navigated a scenic 3.1-mile course that wound through the historic campus, including off-road trails and views of the St. Vincent de Paul Church spires.
Despite storms the night prior, the sun shone bright across campus Saturday morning as participants from local areas such as Bardstown and as far away as Michigan and Maryland joined together. Some participated for specific causes, such as friends and family of Janie Asher Hite, who passed away in 2021. They ran in her honor, continuing a tradition of remembrance and support for the Sisters’ mission. Janie’s team donned green shirts with purple hearts that bore her name.

No matter the reason that brought runners and walkers out, the day continued its tradition of bringing the community together and strengthening the Sisters’ connections with others. Sister Amrita Manjaly, vice president of the Congregation, was all smiles as she watched the race. She opened the event with a prayer and joined other Sisters in tasks such as handing out water and cheering on participants as they approached the finish line.
“As first-time participants, my brother, John, and I loved this event,” Lisa Walters shared. “The enthusiasm, sign creativity, encouragement, organization and appreciation by the Sisters and numerous volunteers was heartfelt and a true example of Our Loving Creator.”
This year’s Run with a Mission event raised funds for the Preranalaya Social Development Center in Musunuru, India, which provides skills training for women and girls from economically poor backgrounds. The program aims to bring about systemic change through education and empowerment.
The Sisters of Charity of Nazareth continue to work for justice in solidarity with oppressed peoples, especially the economically poor and women, through such initiatives.
